Funny Story

So, I needed to find an Excel reader … .

Since I had deleted Microsoft Office from my CPU to free up space. Pitiful right? Anyways, I go sniffing around the web and I fall on this message board with some Joe Schmo asking the same thing! Turns out there are a ton of options, open office, Excel reader, yada yada, well it turns out that Google Documents can also do what I need to do. Well, the point is that Google also has this thing called Blogger, which I had no idea Google owned. Anyways, since I already have a Google account for resigning up for Youtube that one time I decided to sell out and go there. PLUS, I am able to you know, sell out and get ad space like a cheap poor putz. SO, that means to the 8 people following me and the rest of the folks who never say anything, that I am moving on to a new home and will probably post a weekend wrap up and start moving things over to my new home OVER there. When it is ready to go “live,” I’ll post a new post here with the addy but for now, it’s been fun but the Tumbalarity and the spamming and the repetitiveness really ain’t worth it no mo. Adios!

Google Pwnage

Addendum: I’ll still come back and check around since there are some cool folks I’m following, I’m just not going to post any more.

The Great Thing About Twitter …

Alt text via Slashfilm

is that when there is buzz for films or stars of certain films, it can be felt with much more magnitude then back in the old days, since the movers and shakers of what’s going on are literally right there in front of your face. You would have to be an inchworm to miss a semi truck like this. Anyways, I usually would have to wait until TIFF to find out what the late season breakout hit of the winter is going to be. Sure, there is Avatar, Precious, A Serious Man, et al. But now, I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, that the Next Big Thing is going to be:

Up In The Air Directed by Jason Reitman Produced By Michael Buegg, Joe Medjuck, and Tom Pollack Written by Jason Reitman Starring George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, + Anna Kendrick Distributed by Paramount Pictures

Prediction: 100+M in US Domestic Gross

So You Are Following Me On Twitter … .

Hey! I’m following you on Tumblr but you haven’t posted anything in like forever!?

That’s because young padawan, my new blog is at: thatpj.blogspot.com Update your bookmarks! All 2 of you!

Check me out on Friendfeed, Facebook, Tumblr and on my Personal Homepage!

So! Thanks so much for following me on Twitter! You may have found me through my personal website, blog, or from my many listings throughout the interweb. Well, There are few things you should know and expect now that you’ve hit that follow button.

First things first: What do I Tweet about?

Well, I focus mainly on films since that is my primary interest in life. You see, I grew up on them, I watch them, I love them, I want to marry them and have 7 happy kids. I also want to make a career out of it, so yeah, that’s my main goal.

I also tweet about sports! The four major food groups. Namely, basketball (I am a huge Pistons fan!), Football (I cheer for the Lions but my heart is with the Patriots.) Hey! I like winning! Hockey (Penguins! But I like all the teams, especially Canadian ones, but don’t get started on those dadgum Red Wings . . .) and baseball (Me and Tigers are going to the Pennant!)

I also tweet about politics. Uh oh! Well, Sorry, I can’t help it. I graduated (allegedly) from the University of Michigan-Flint with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. Suck on that. Also I am a crazy unapologetic leftist who will fry your kids for dinner while wearing a pinko shirt. One of my professors said I was to the left of Karl Marx. I also graduated with Honors, biatch. Pi Sigma Alpha!

I also sometimes feel the urge to tweet to celebrities. Don’t worry, they have no idea who I am. I am just living in my parent’s basement. I’m a nobody. Don’t take offense. I only do it if the time calls for it and if there is actual material to go on.

Will I follow you back?

Unless you are a person in any of the fields I just named above, the chances are slim to none.

If you follow more then 100 people a day, I won’t.

If you don’t talk to me, I will unfollow.

If the word “expert” appears anywhere in your bio, I won’t. I will also point you to this website: bit.ly/IRONY

If your ignore rate is above 15%, I won’t follow

If you don’t have a decent website, a decent bio, or an actual picture, I won’t follow

If you have one tweet about getting more followers or teeth whitening or any of that crap, I will probably block you. I will also send you to this website: bit.ly/IRONY

If you are impersonating a celebrity, chances are I will report you to @truthtweet

If you do something really cool, or a really funny, or something catches my eye in your profile or in your work, I am more likely to follow you! Don’t be Sweet Aunt Sue, be Barry, the hermaphrodite android from Chicago by way of Florida. Because Twitter, to me at least, is about sharing experiences.

I don’t play the numbers game, I play the quality game. If you do take the time to talk to me, the chances of me noticing you and taking the time to follow you will increase substantially. With that said, bring it on, tweet at me whatever is on your mind! I may not respond at the drop of a hat, but I will see it and respond if needed.

That’s a lot of rules to follow? Are you sure you aren’t a high school Jewish chick?

Yes, that is a lot of rules to follow, but I take my timeline very seriously. It is my script for the day. Add value or get out of the way.

Who am I?

This is copied from the biography I scrapped together on my website (http://thatpj.ueclub.com) which you can register to, and talk in the forums on, and play games, and generally have a fun time!

Ever since PJ was a young kid, he knew he was a bit different. His experiences growing up have formed him into what he is today. To begin, let’s start at middle school, where in private school in some tiny microscopic town in Virginia, he won a couple of public speaking awards. He even had fun in a play called The Lottery.

Then in high school, he moved back up to Michigan and got quite a bit lost, People were treating him very weirdly. Luckily, he had E! and IFC. It helped him understand why. There he took part in the Black history Month Ensemble. Then in college, he did something stupid.

Rather doing what he liked to do, he did what he thought he was supposed to do. He graduated with a Political Science degree from University of Michigan-Flint. However, during his tenure at college, he began to spend more and more time in the theatre department. He joined his local community theatre group. It was all very fun.

Then, he remembered those days of freshman year of high school when he began to have a great interest in films and tv shows. That’s when he was lucky enough to have a friend that let him audition for this web show that was going to highlight the new Michigan film industry. He made it and had a lot of fun shooting his scenes

Now he looks to the future to see what life has in store for him.

So you are a nobody?

Yes! Why are you even following me!?

Is this what your tweets are like?

When I am not retweeting someone else or in a academic mood, yes, they are a bit like this.

Blow by Blow Review of Tom Jones

-My first retro review ever in any medium!

-For a retro film, I think this one could still find an audience nowadays. It has just enough physical comedy and blatant sex appeal that it could still reach the MTV generation and younger.

-It reminded me of a Benny Hill episode. It was complete with the chase scenes, the people listening by the door making funny faces, and all sorts of awkward situations!

-If it won an Oscar today, I think people would be rebelling in the streets. Not really people per say, but the film geek community. It is not their cup of tea. Noses were not stuck high enough in the air.

-Unlike the other retro film I saw recently, The Apartment, this one is straight comedy. I find it kind of amazing that nowadays comedies don’t get a fair shake in the award season. Comedians work just as hard as other actors. It seems, to me, to be even harder in film because it is a enclosed environment, so there is no way of knowing if the jokes will hit or miss with the public at large.

-I have never seen so much cleavage in my life. Seriously, every chick had a cleavage shot. Nearly every scene. And it wasn’t subtle either. It was right in your face. Another reaosnw hy the MTV generation would like it.

-I would like to see more satires like this. It’s like a The Importance of Being Earnest taken to the extreme.

This is the Derby average. I think it is quite interesting to compare it with my predictions for the weekend.

All About Steve (via jkblackout)

BOX OFFICE WEEKEND PREVIEW For Labor Day Weekend!

This weekend we have a holiday, which really puts box office prognosticators in a twist because usually that means things are going to behave differently then on a normal holiday. This weekend, there are 2 comedies and 1 action film trying to get the last remaining audiences before school starts back up around the country.

The trailer above is for the film All About Steve. It’s opening this week apparently, which is a surprise tome since I have not seen a single tv spot for it in the past month. It was supposed to come out in March but now it seems it has been dumped by the studio on this weekend, in hopes that it can open well enough for a profit. Tracking hasn’t been all that great either. The surprising thing is that the Derby average, which I’ll post on Friday, is still exceptionally high for it. Anyways, I am only going 7M for this film because I don’t think a lot of folks know this film is coming out now.

Alt text

Up next we have Gamer. Gamer was also another film that was supposed to do really decently this weekend, but tracking has been poor. If I had to wager a guess as to why, it would be because District 9 and Inglourious Basterds stole it’s thunder. You see, this film is about a dude that plays a video game but it ends up that the players inside the game are also human! Oh Noes! Moral quandaries! I think it’s plot line may to above the heads of it’s audience. I am also going lower then the Derby average on this one. I have it at 10M for the 4 day, and I still think that may be too high.

Up next, is quite possibly the next film, Extract, may end up being a sleeper hit, since it is not in as much theaters as the other two and it is also being released by a smaller studio then then the others. But this film could quite possibly surprise and put up a total over the holiday since it has used effective marketing like bringing back Beavis and Butthead, classic, and penetrating the airwaves with a ton of funny spots. I am going higher then tracking on this one with 7M. It may go higher but the theater count is a real downer.

My limited release spotlight is for No Impact Man! Here is the trailer and the real life blog about it: Check it out!

So, I did really good this week! Woohoo! Since I already wrote up the preview post, this is my celebration post since this is the best score I got since I started Twittering/Blogging my scores. It feels good to actually have something good to post up. I’m probably going to need it since this week coming up will be especially hard.

Aw Shucks!

For some reason there is a delay in Derby scoring so it might be a while till I get to write about the results last weekend.

Of note, from what I remember, The September Issue blew past my expectations with a 36K PTA! I only had it pegged at 10K. This should also be a documentary run to watch. It could expand and grossed 10M.

Anyways, a difficult weekend is ahead. A 4 day Labor Day holiday. Those are tough to gauge because of the extra Monday makes Friday like another Saturday.

Of the big releases, there is the videogame action film, Gamer. There is also the delayed and now released comedy All About Steve. Also, coming out is the new Mike Judge workplace comedy Extract, which I suspect will deserve more money that then it shall probably get opening weekend.

Coming out in limited release, there is the definition of the “go green” movement documentary,No Impact Man, which documents a blogger’s trek to go off the grid. Seems like Supersize Me or 30 Days by Morgan Spurlock.

Paramount Vantage is brining us Carriers this weekend. It is a horror film which other then Let The Right One In, don’t enjoy long lives in platform release. However, it does star the star of Star Trek, Chris Pine so it should open okay.

That’s all folks!
