Quick Blow by Blow Review of Avatar Day

-Strange things happened at my screening, turns out when the site crashed the entire database of people who RSVPed got kaput at our theater. I think Fox Searchlight should have done the administrative work instead. They are good at that stuff.

-Anyways, got a perfect seat with no obstructions, adjusted my glasses for glare, and put on my wonky 3D glasses.

-Then it began. All James Cameron had to do was appear on screen and then I knew this was going to be different.

-It started off kind of non-nonchalantly. A general or whatever was talking, yet it was totally different. In a scene, much like a scene I saw earlier in the day in IB, the effect of immersion within the environment is totally different. Rather then being talked AT, I felt talked TO. Rather then watching other people getting yelled at, I was getting yelled at with them.

-Then a funny thing happened. Jake Scully decided to transform and turn into an Avatar or whatever. I call it funny because some folks were saying that this was like “Delgo.” Couldn’t be any further the the truth! It wasn’t a 3D for kid’s like Up, where we say “Oh, look at the pretty pictures!” No, this was a living, breathing, thing. This had life. This was a far cry from Delgo or Jar Jar or anything else you could possibly imagine.

-Then shit blew up. Things were ratcheted up far and away beyond anything I have ever seen before ever. Ever. Every single time the screen went to black there was a collective HOLY FUCKING SHIT! from me and my crowd tonight. I will not say because even I want to forget what I saw so I can relive it again on December 18th.

-Then when it was all over, the lovely Fox representative told us that tickets were on sale ALREADY! for it. Now that is confidence in product and I love it. This is going to blow whatever your preconceived notions of what film is and blow it out of the water, blow it out of the planet, blow it out of the stratosphere and land it in Pandora.

-I REALLY hope you saw Avatar today. It’s a can’t miss. The sky is the limit. Can’t predict it’s box-office because it’s range is from 200-infinity. Don’t listen to the haters who haven’t seen it in 3D, just be prepared for anything.
